Why do people play a game they don't like that much for hundreds of hours?

I'm really surprised that it is a thing. I discovered that people do this when I googled how long a certain game is, which then led me to its subreddit to see what people think of it, and then I saw a lot of comments like "I have played it for 200 hours and it's meh". I just don't understand why they don't just play games they like instead of spending hundreds of hours on a "meh" game.
