Ukrainian Victim of $250,000 Crypto Heist

The crypto industry is once again at the center of violent crime. 23-year-old Ukrainian Vyacheslav Leybov was the victim of an armed robbery in Thailand, losing 250,000 USDT. The case is reminiscent of the increased threat of “wrench attacks,” in which criminals physically threaten crypto owners to force them to transfer funds. The incident took place in a Bangkok hotel, where Leybov was invited by his friend Alfred Chernyshuk and another man, Arman Grigoryan.
Upon entering the room, Leybov met an Armenian citizen, who first talked to him on the balcony, and then the criminals forced him to go to the bathroom. There, two masked men were waiting for him. They tied Leybov up and, threatening him with a hammer and a knife, demanded that he transfer 500,000 USDT. Leibov persuaded them to lower the demand to 250,000 USDT, which he transferred to the wallet they specified.
After the cryptocurrency was transferred, Leibov was tied to a bed and warned against contacting the police. The criminals left the scene of the crime, taking all their belongings. Leibov later freed himself, contacted the hotel staff and left the building, trying to find the criminals at the airport, but his attempts were unsuccessful.
The Leibov incident is not an isolated case. Last week, Rooch Network founder Haichao Zhu was also robbed in Bangkok before the Devcon crypto conference. Similar attacks have occurred in other countries: in Canada, WonderFi Technologies CEO Dean Sciurka was kidnapped for a ransom of $720,000
