1. Take a letter-sized piece of printer paper and lay it flat on a surface. Fold the paper in half lengthwise and crease the fold with your fingernail. Unfold the paper. For a colored airplane, use construction paper instead.
2. With the paper flat again, fold the top corners toward the center crease to form triangles. Crease the folds with your fingernail. The top of the paper should now come to a point.
3. Fold the new angled top edges toward the center crease again to create a large triangle shape. Crease the folds with your fingernail to secure them.
4. Using the first center crease as a guide, fold the paper in half so the triangle folds are on the inside. Run your fingernail along the crease to reinforce it. This creates the bottom of the plane for easy holding and throwing.
5. Bring the angled sides of the paper to the center fold one at a time to form the wings. Crease each wing firmly with your knuckle or fingernail. Make sure the wings are symmetrical so the plane flies evenly. Once creased, unfold the wings slightly so the plane lies flat.
