Been using this card for a while and it’s pretty nice to suck u into the wonderful world of crypto finance and actually being able to pay for ur groceries with crypto but here’s my personal experience of using the card for a year aswell as the secrets u won’t find on the internet:
The card payment:
It costs around $5 to get it for issuant fee of whatever they want to call it. Keep in mind when ur card expires they will ask u for it again even if ur card is in fully working order, no damages or not stolen u will have to pay the $5 for replacement no matter what, I haven’t found this written anywhere on the internet about this. So where has the original $5 gone? Guess we will never find out
U get finessed by atm machines:
Most atm machines will not work with withdrawing so u will have to try the card with every atm machine in ur area and see which works, and try to find the provider of them atm machines else where and hope they work with the card and some will likely scam ur money say for example the cash machine works and withdraws ur money, u withdraw $100 and u get $70 in actual cash and ur mobile app or whatever u use to track it with, will say u withdraw $100 and there’s no way to prove the atm machine has just taken ur $30.
atm fees will choke u:
ur balance is in crypto so Coinbase charges u to exchange that into fiat then charges u on top to withdraw it and I’m talking like $10-12 per $250, u can only withdraw maximum $250 in 1 withdraw attempt and the maximum u can withdraw per day is $500 so u lost like $24 from withdrawing $500 nice one. Keep in mind these charges will not be shoved in ur face, u will have to work it out urself by remembering ur before and after balance to see how much ur actually being ripped of by, Coinbase account doesn’t show the fee but the app does in a hidden manner, the drop down transaction breakdown
U broke af:
Sometimes the card lies and ur overcharged, the machine has money in it but the card will decline and say not enough funds even though u have enough funds, ur charged $12 for withdraw attempt then ur charged fees again around $9 for them to refund u the balance back to ur account “because atm or u didn’t have enough funds” and ur paying the fees.
ATMs shadow block u or disappear:
Not sure if it’s a coincidence or not but a atm that has existed in the same place for 2-5 year and then being shutdown after u successfully withdraw from it a few times maybe seem weird. Also as explained earlier how some atms don’t work, u will also come to realise after using the atm for 3-4 times u will probably be surprised with a shadow block where the machine simply says something along the lines of “there was a error contact ur bank / card supplier” it it may or may not be a coincidence but why does it happen all of a sudden when ur using the same Coinbase card at the same atm machine a few times and successfully withdrawing from it? Maybe the engineer sees something suspicious along the lines and blocks it? Who knows… Keep in mind using ur normal bank card right after, there’s magically no issues with the machine.
Never have confidence with this card:
You’ll always have it at the back of ur head “will my card be accepted” like I said earlier, some atms don’t accept it so make sure u have a backup plan, also best not paying for groceries at the checkout via card coz they take x2 of actual cost as said on their site and u will be waiting a while for that to be refund to ur account
Is it really a a Coinbase card?
Don’t get overexcited “I have a Coinbase card” please sit down and understand it isn’t a actual “Coinbase card” it’s just written on it, the actual manufacturers of this so called “ Coinbase card” is aptopayments.com u may have gotten some emails about it probably in junk mail by [email protected] apparently it’s a phishing attempt according to Coinbase support
Strange how they don’t even know their own email providers right? Well it seems to me like it’s their aptopayment email associate account but Coinbase support don’t know about it? Why do I get emails from them exactly when I do stuff in their app?
This is my personal experience from Coinbase card, it’s been somehow great the first time I got it and being overly excited for it but after a long duration of use the cracks started to become apparent and it’s just something that will cause u endless issues in the long run.
