I will first start off by saying that all the information you need is public and you can prevent losses and maximize gains by simply learning more. I can't tell you the many times I would've avoided losses had I known a thing or two more. This isn't that type of "make $100 in 1 hour method!"
Even if you don't have money, I still recommend practicing trading strategies. You can sign up for MarketWatch stock simulator which offers sufficient range of tools. This is so you can learn how to place a trade should you go to a real broker and invest real money
How do I get started you ask?
There are basically three general ways to play the stock market.
Long Term Investor: This is the people that try to find a stock which they believe will go up over time. People like Warren Buffet. This trading is mostly fundamental analysis and shares are held for months to years at a time
Swing Trader: Swing traders rely less on fundamental analysis and are focus more on technical analysis. Swing traders follow the trend and typically hold their shares anywhere between a few days to two weeks
Day Trader: Day Traders almost rely fully on technical analysis and only use fundamental to sort of make sure they don't get fucked over. Shares are held within a days range. YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST $25,000 TO BE A DAY TRADER IN THE US
What is fundamental and technical analysis?
Fundamental Analysis: Focuses on the company(or could be industry/general market as a whole) and it's health. You would take a look at balance sheets, SEC filings, earnings reports etc.
Technical Analysis: Focuses on the chart. Technical analysts will use multiple indicators and tools to chart a stock
REMEMBER FUNDAMENTAL>TECHNICAL. Meaning if your technicals say stock XYZ will go to $48 but the same company got a bad article written about it or it's fucked in debt, it will be fundamentals driving the price
I recommend learning about trading strategies and information about the stock market extensively. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH. Also, googling "best stock to buy september 2015" will not work. The people who make money off the markets have a strategy. This is a real skill and extremely useful and profitable.
