I want to talk here about an anime that takes on very serious subjects such as human ethics, racism, control of the masses, and others. It seems to me that because of this not many people could actually understand its deepness and just watched it for the action (which is ok, compared to some other psycho animes).
The futuristic world in the anime isn't based, like in many many others, on the idea of segregation based on wealth and power, but on supposed intelligence. Low-class humans aren't treated inhumane, but actually dehumanized to further justify their inferiority.
Another big difference is the fact that the ending does not attempt to "save the world" and fix everything. All it does is provide the main characters with closure and, maybe, hope.
If you've seen this wonderful anime, feel free to discuss about it here, I'd love to see more opinions about it.
