In this tutorial we will create a Checking File In Local Server Using PHP. This code will check whether the file is already existed in the local server when user enter the file name in input field. The code use PHP POST to call a specifc method that can check if file is already exist in the local server using file_exists() by setting the file path as an argument.This is a user-friendly kind of program feel free to modify it.

Getting Started:

First you have to download & install XAMPP or any local server that run PHP scripts. Here's the link for XAMPP server https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html.

And this is the link for the bootstrap that i used for the layout design https://getbootstrap.com/.

Creating The Interface

This is where we will create a simple form for our application. To create the forms simply copy and write it into your text editor, then save it as index.php.
  1. <!DOCTYPE html>
  2. <html lang="en">
  3. <head>
  4. <meta charset="UTF-8" name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"/>
  5. <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/bootstrap.css"/>
  6. </head>
  7. <body>
  8. <nav class="navbar navbar-default">
  9. <div class="container-fluid">
  10. <a class="navbar-brand" href="https://sourcecodester.com">Sourcecodester</a>
  11. </div>
  12. </nav>
  13. <div class="col-md-3"></div>
  14. <div class="col-md-6 well">
  15. <h3 class="text-primary">PHP - Checking File In Local Server</h3>
  16. <hr style="border-top:1px dotted #ccc;"/>
  17. <div class="col-md-4">
  18. <form action="save_file.php" method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data">
  19. <div class="form-group">
  20. <label>Filename</label>
  21. <input type="text" name="filename" class="form-control" required="required"/>
  22. </div>
  23. <div class="form-group">
  24. <label>Content</label>
  25. <textarea class="form-control" name="content" style="resize:none; height:150px;" required="required"></textarea>
  26. </div>
  27. <button name="save" class="btn btn-primary"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-save"></span> Save</button>
  28. </form>
  29. </div>
  30. <div class="col-md-8">
  31. <form method="POST" action="">
  32. <div class="form-inline">
  33. <label>File Name:</label>
  34. <input type="text" class="form-control" name="file" required="required"/><button class="btn btn-primary" name="check">Check</button>
  35. </div>
  36. </form>
  37. <?php

    include

    'check_file.php'

    ?>
  38. <br />
  39. <table class="table table-bordered">
  40. <thead class='alert-info'>
  41. <tr>
  42. <th><center>List of Files</center></th>
  43. </tr>
  44. </thead>
  45. <tbody>
  46. <?php
  47. $files

    =

    scandir

    (

    'file/'

    )

    ;
  48. foreach

    (

    $files

    as

    $file

    )

    {
  49. if

    (

    $file

    !=

    '.'

    &&

    $file

    !=

    '..'

    )

    {
  50. $path

    =

    "file/"

    .

    $file

    ;
  51. ?>
  52. <tr>
  53. <td><?php

    echo

    $file

    ?>

    </td>
  54. </tr>
  55. <?php
  56. }
  57. }
  58. ?>
  59. </tbody>
  60. </table>
  61. </div>
  62. </div>

  63. </body>
  64. </html>

Creating the Insert File

This code contains the insert function of the application. This code will create a new file by submit the form filed. To make this just simple copy and write the this block of codes inside the text editor, then save it as save_file.php.
  1. <?php
  2. if

    (

    ISSET

    (

    $_POST

    [

    'save'

    ]

    )

    )

    {
  3. $filename

    =

    $_POST

    [

    'filename'

    ]

    ;
  4. $content

    =

    $_POST

    [

    'content'

    ]

    ;

  5. $file

    =

    fopen

    (

    'file/'

    .

    $filename

    .

    ".txt"

    ,

    "w"

    )

    or die

    (

    "Unable to open file!"

    )

    ;
  6. fwrite

    (

    $file

    ,

    $content

    )

    ;

  7. fclose

    (

    $file

    )

    ;

  8. header

    (

    "location: index.php"

    )

    ;
  9. }
  10. ?>

Creating the Main Function

This code contains the main function of the application. This code will check the file if existed when the button is clicked. To make this just simple copy and write the this block of codes inside the text editor, then save it as check_file.php.
  1. <?php
  2. if

    (

    ISSET

    (

    $_POST

    [

    'check'

    ]

    )

    )

    {
  3. $filename

    =

    $_POST

    [

    'file'

    ]

    ;
  4. if

    (

    file_exists

    (

    'file/'

    .

    $filename

    )

    )

    {
  5. echo

    "<center class='alert-success'><h4>File "

    .

    $filename

    .

    " is available!</h4></center>"

    ;
  6. }

    else

    {
