I noticed a lot of people looking at how to grow and monetize their social media accounts.
So, rather than answer each thread individually it is easier for me to write a method thread.
I own a social media agency, where I pair brands with influencers and thought it might be quite useful for everyone if I analyzed what my best performing (read, earn the most money) influencers do.
This is what I found:
1. Pick a easy to monetize niche. Although most niches can be monetized. Choose a niche that it is obvious brands, with money to pay you, would be interested in marketing to that audience.
The top three brands I work with come from these niches:
Fashion, Style & Beauty
Fitness & Sports
Pets & Animals
2. You can monetize every geo, but brands pay more for Tier 1 English speaking.
3. Concentrate on Instagram or Facebook, ideally both.
4. How do you get from 0 followers to the point where a brand would be interested?
Some of them fluked it, but I did notice a pattern with the newer influencers who were successful.
The answer is simple enough but can be time consuming and requires discipline.
a. Post great content once per day.
b. Get some initial traction. Follow/unfollow, even buy a few fake followers just so you look like a few people are interested in what you have to say. Nobody is going to be interested in following you if you have 0 followers. People like to follow people who they think are popular.
c. Then scale with shoutouts from relevant accounts. Use something like shoutcart to buy them, you can even sell back to them later.
d. Cleanout the fake/unresponsive followers from about 5000 or so followers onwards, as you don't need follower padding then. The key is engagement level, this will keep yours higher.
e. Repeat!
5. Don’t bother trying to monetize until you get to at least 10,000 followers, ideally 25,000+. Instead concentrate on driving engagement levels up.
6. Hands down the best way my agency found to monetize influencers was to match brands that are looking to offer FREE Giveaways to an influencers audience.
There are influencers that I work with who follow those guidelines and make $30,000+ per month and that is just from my agency.
So if they can do it, so can you, it just takes time and requires discipline!
