1. Contact Information:
In life, you will meet powerful people daily, and maybe even discuss with them. But most people often forget to exchange contact information with these people, and that is a terrible mistake.
For example: Today I go to buy a car, and I meet good salesmen that know how to talk and to sell things and I ask for their contact information. let's say, After 2 months, I start a business and I need a good salesman, instead of going around with no idea who to call, I already have 3 or 4 salesmen in my contacts list that I can call, and even if they are not interested they might know people who are.
2. Engaging:
Most people who complain about not having a network are usually not exposing themselves or engaging with anybody, so it's not surprising.
If you want to know powerful people in life, you will first need to engage with them. This can be done in many places like school, work, bars, gym etc...
If you spoke to 10 strangers everyday for 3 months, you would know so many interesting people in life and your network will start to grow, but since it's uncomfortable to speak to strangers, very few people are doing it.
3. Talking:
When you're speaking with a business owner for example, you have to say the right things and not just talk about anything (especially not the fucking weather or your pet or your house), but rather lead with value.
A business owner will usually have many friends that he can speak to (you are no different) but if you really want to profit from him, you'll need to offer him things that he needs or at least speak about your achievements.
For example: If I happen to be speaking with a business owner whose business lacks a website, I could start speaking to him about my skills at making websites. If however he doesn't need anything I can offer, I could speak with him about my recent projects or my skills nevertheless, so that whenever he needs another website or something I can offer him, he will directly come to me.
4. Lead with value:
If one day, that same business owner needs a website (or anything else), don't charge him too much for it, but rather offer to help him build a professional website at a discounted rate or even for free. By providing value and demonstrating your skills, you not only strengthen your relationship with the business owner but also showcase your expertise to potential clients or contacts who may come across the website. This act of generosity and willingness to assist can leave a lasting impression and increase the likelihood of referrals or future collaborations. Remember, networking is not just about what others can do for you but also about how you can contribute and make a positive impact on their lives or businesses.
Additional:
If you have a skill that could totally help you gain money but you don't know people who can use that skill, you can literally go around your town to look for people that need that specific skill.
For example: I know how to make websites (again), but I don't know anybody who needs a website. I go around town and visit every single gym, bar, restaurant, coffee shop, office etc... and offer them my services while also stating what's in it for them (having a portfolio helps a ton). by doing that I will at least find 2 to 3 clients who want to build a website.
