Looking for a Chess like game that isnt Chess

I realize how dumb it sounds but its simply that. Im looking for a slow/medium pace 1v1 strategy game that has interesting mechanics. Im not entirely opposed to card games but I would rather not play something where RNG is a main aspect of the game. That being said I've tried autochess games and they were fun for a time but I would really prefer a 1v1 game if such a game exists.
