Hi at all,
Maybe this is not the correct section, but there is no support subcategory on Hacking section.
Today a friend of mine (we will call him BETA) received a strange call from an our friend (we will call him ALPHA). (BETA is the best friend of ALPHA)
It was a recorded voice of a woman telling she found the ALPHA's phone asking whose the phone, whose his father, where he lives etc etc.
After she told to BETA she will give back the phone only for 50€ and BETA immediately closed the call thinking it was a joke from alpha and he called ALPHA.
( BETA checked on the dialer app and the number was really from ALPHA )
ALPHA told him he didn't loose the phone, nor noone used it. He was just studying with the phone on the desk and now
(of course) is scared.
I told him to check if his account google got cracked, but there was no external access anywhere, nor whatsapp web, nor telegram, facebook, nor strange app installed for mistake, nor phone inserted on ads.
I though his SIM is cloned cause he has BETA phone saved not on the Google account.
On phone providers'registry there is no call on the phone records (telecom). So the call didn't come from his SIM.
Also ALPHA's father excluded the cloned SIM as hypothesis (he is a police man).
Maybe is phone got hacked? He goes to university and has an Android phone with security patch updated to June 2016.
Maybe he got his caller ID spoofed or someone called using some service as crazycall.net (i don't know if it really works. I tested with a free USA number and the service wasn't working). But we live in italy and it isn't allowed in Europe service as these.
But also if his caller ID got spoofed, i can't explain how they got the number of his best friend.
It is strange because people that may know how to spoofs a phone doesn't know who is Beta.
I,alpha and beta live in a small town and it is quite impossible to find people with this "abilities".
Alpha and Beta goes to different university far 40-50 km from our town, so no """university friend""" in common.
And why someone in the town should scam? The town is so small that we know each others.
Any ideas?
Thank you
