- Autodesk 3ds Max (Primary, free for students)
- Blender (Free)
- Cinema 4D (Heavily used in Motion Design)
- MODO (Less used)
2D Art/Texturing:
- Adobe Photoshop (Primary, Multiple uses)
- Substance Painter (Live 3D Painting, powerfull program)
- Quixel Suite (Works with Photoshop for texturing)
- Mari (High fidelity texturing for 3D work)
- Autodesk Mudbox (Live 3D painting, easy to use tools, very limited)
2D Animation/Sprites:
- Adobe Photoshop (Primary, great for spritesheets/pixel art)
- Adobe Flash (Primary, great for 2D animation and web)
- Adobe After Effects (Primary, advanced 2D animation/motion design and compositing)
- Toon Boom (2D animation/story boarding)
3D sculpting:
- ZBrush (Primary, best 3D sculpting program)
- Autodesk Mudbox (Easy to learn, limited in areas)
- Autodesk Maya (Basic sculpting tools, less used)
- Cinema 4D (Basic sculpting tools, less used)
- Modo (Basic tools)
- Blender (Free to use, basic tools)
Game Engines:
- Unity (Free/professional edition, huge online community, 2D/3D, great for indie developers)
- Unreal Engine (Subscription/payed license, suited for bigger developers)
- CryEngine (Subscription/payed license, suited for bigger developers)
- GameMaker (Free/professional edition, 2D Games, limited tools)
