Officers of the operational units of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Krasnodar Territory detained a 20-year-old local resident. He is suspected of obtaining illegal access to computer information.
"According to preliminary data, the attacker acquired hacked accounts of citizens registered on the Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services from third parties. With their help, he activated the SIM cards of telecom operators and entered inaccurate data about subscribers into the billing system. Then the young man transferred the right of access to these numbers to the organizers of call centers, which were located on the territory of Russia and Ukraine. For his work, he received a monetary reward in cryptocurrency," said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
As a result of operational-search measures, the police, with the power support of Rosgvardia officers, detained the suspect. During searches in the Gulkevichsky district and the city of Tikhoretsk of the Krasnodar Territory, 55 smartphones, 162 bank and SIM cards, electronic media and other items of evidentiary value were found and seized.
"It was established that the SIM cards seized from the attacker were used to commit fraud in 20 regions of our country. The total amount of damage exceeded 23 million rubles.
An investigator of the SC of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory is investigating a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under part 3 of article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The defendant was charged and a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen.
Currently, measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the illegal activity and its possible accomplices," said Irina Volk.
