I have a noob question hope this is the right forum for it

So I'm brand new to cracking. Just got my very first hits 2 days ago so there's a lot I still don't understand. My question is if I have a config for a certain site and I have the debugger for that config pulled up on silver bullet and I put my login info for the site into the data box since I know it works and it come back successful so I'm assuming the config is good but when I run it on a word list i get nothing but retries. do I need to get better proxies maybe? That's what i was thinking but I'd be mad if I went and paid for some proxies and still got the same issue. Let me know if this thread belongs somewhere else I will move it. Thanks in advance for any info you guys have.
