When you're on a plane that's about to go down, it's no longer about faith levels and positive affirmations. It's about whether you're ready to die yet, and what sort of legacy you will leave behind.
When you have a weapon aimed at your chest and all the witnesses are too scared to tell the truth, and when the doctors do blank x-rays 8 months later with the machine turned off and then tell you they were perfectly...er...clear, but refuse to show you the images, it's not about faith levels or positive affirmations either. It's about whether God wants to take you home yet, and how much pain and humiliation and loss He is willing to let you go through in the meantime.
God is not obligated to give us comfortable lives or take away all our pain.
When Christians are tortured or murdered for their faith, they don't get through it by claiming victory over the situation. They go through it, and God helps them. Sometimes all the 'faith-filled' people around them who have 'perfect childlike faith' really don't care at all.
Of course nobody would ever want to admit that such things as persecution and terrorism against Christians are even possible in any western countries - if any information leaks out about such things on OUR soil, doctors, counselors, police officers, pastors and many other people are trained to say dismissively, 'That doesn't happen here.' This helps them to maintain their sense of safety and comfort.
Naming and claiming and citing of carefully fragmented, out of context Bible verses does very little when you lose your friends because of cutting off ties with the false friends that they too are tangled up with - the same false friends who tried to kill you and then meddled with your medical records so that you could never get proper treatment for anything.
It does very little except convince you that whatever is happening is not, whatever has happened didn't really, and whatever happens in the future might not be real either. That alone could turn a person crazy, which is what the false friends were anyway.
It can make you feel better temporarily, but only until reality hits. Better to memorize (or at least learn) things in their proper context, so that you don't have distorted expectations of God.
