How to know if the traffic is being redirected?

Hi, I'm new in cyber security and I am doing a project about C2 infraestructures. I am using socat as a tool to redirect all the traffic to the server, but know I have to use proxys. My question is this, how can the client (bot) know that the traffic is being redireted with socat? and what are the advantages os using proxys?
