Mushrooms
Materials
1) Bens's Original Ready Rice- Whole Grain Brown
2) Spore Syringes -
3) 70% Isopropyl Alcohol
4) Spray Bottle
5) Microspore Tape
6) Torch Lighter
7) Plasitc Bins
8) Optional- Grow Tents (Vivosun.com - Bassdropkeys 15% off)
9) Trash Bags
10) Light
11) Scissors
Life Cycle
1) Mushroom spores obtained
2) Inoculate grain
3) Use colonized grain to inoculate substrate
4) Substrate and grain colonizes in warm temperatures
5) Place in fruiting conditions
6) Harvest and Flush
Additional Notes
- After flush you can reuse same substrate to get mutliple harvest
Strains
- Golden Teachers
- https://inoculatetheworld.com/product/penis-envy-isolated-syringe/
Initial Inoculation
1) Wipe down work space with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol
2) Bring Lighter Torch, Rice Bags, Spore, & Microspore Tape over and wipe down in work space
3) Wipe down bags and needle
4) Put needle on Spore Syringe
5) Wipe injection point then inject 0.3 - 0.7 cc of liquid spores
6) Put Microspore Tape over injection point
7) Torch Needle with Torch Lighter
8) Repeat for all bags
9) Make gas holes by heating up needle and put two holes
10) Flame sterilize needle between each bag
11) Label Bags with date and Strain
12) Put bags into plastic bin
Additional Notes
- Make a bunch of bags, most will end up failing
- Around four bags should make over an ounce
- 75-80 degrees
- No direct sunlight
- Waist height
- Bags stored flat
Colonizing Grain
1) When 30% of grain is colonized break up and move grain around
2) Maintain Temperatures
Additional Notes
- You know when grain is colonized when its starts to get hard
- Depedning on Strain might be different but 30% should be around 15 Days
- To know when fully colonized feel the bag and see if you can feel any lose grain, should be around 5-7 days after break up
Make Bulk Substrate
1) **Need More Research**
Adding Grain to Substrate (Second Inoculation)
1) Wipe down scissors & 12 quart plastic bin with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol
2) Put Trash Bag inside of 12 quart plastic bin and wipe down with Isopropyl Alcohol
3) Open and pour in rice
4) Take out any uncolozined rice **Wear a Mask**
5) If there is a sweet or sour smell throw out immediately, there should be a earthy mushroom smell
6) Repeat steps 3-5 until you have four bags worth of colonized grain
7) Add two quarts of Bulk Substrate & mix
8) Pack down then add a Casing Layer
9) Casing Layer should be 1/8th of an inch to half inch thick
10) Make everything even
11) Trim Trash Bag to just above the substrate
12) Mist top of substrate & top of lid
13) Put back in same conditions and keep it closed for 7-10 days to colonize the rest of container
14) Label
Additional Notes
- Method used is called "Spawn to Bulk"
- Method used for packing bin is called "Cake Layers"
- Shoe boxes are 6 quart plastic containers
- Preferred plastic bin is 12 quart plactic container
Checking and Changing Conditions
1) Open and look for any green those are contaminants
2) Normally wait 70 - 80% covered but it is fine to do after check
3) Mist until there are little beads of water
4) Clean the top of lid then mist with water
5) Put the lid upside down ontop of container this will put the bin into fruiting conditions
6) Check everyday to make sure its not drying out
7) Once you see pinning replace the lid with another 12 quart plastic bin
Additional Notes
- Check every inch of the bin for contaminants
- Pinning is once you see the first growth out of the substrate
Checking and Harvest
1) Around 7-9 days after being put into fruiting conditions should have small mushrooms
2) Once you see small mushrooms check everyday they grow very fast
3) Harvest when the veil is about to rip or just ripped off
4) Wipe down hands with Isopropyl Alcohol
5) Wipe down tools
6) Use Twist and Pull method to harvest for most
Additional Notes
- 65 Watt light for 12 hours a day
- Can increase air coming in by increasing gap between tubs
- Twist and Pull is when you grab the base and twist, cut the end of the mushrooms to get rid of any substrate
Wash and Prep
1) Cut mushrooms up if they are big
2) Rinse under the sink
3) Put into dehydrator at 165 degrees for six hours
4) Put into a mason jar for storage
Flushing Substrate
1) Fill substrate bin with water to about half way fully
2) Put top bin on top and fill with water to hold down the substrate bin
3) Allow for the substrate bin to be fully submerged for six hours
4) Pour water out of bins
5) Put back to fruiting conditions and wait for another harvest
