This tutorial sounds very complex, but it is actually very simple.
WARNING: This method involves mass following/unfollowing which can get you banned if you don't properly go about doing this. You only want to follow/unfollow around 200 people a day, and it has to be at least 24 hours apart.

What we will be doing here is exploiting other people trying to gain followers and using it to our advantage with one simple trick!
-STEP 1: To get started, you want to set your account to Private, if you are using a Business account you will have to change back to a Personal account. This is optional, but it allows you to choose who you do and don't confirm, it also helps with making it more difficult for people to unfollow you because they have to press unfollow more than once.
-STEP 2: The next thing you want to do if you haven't already, is to follow a ton of verified people with a lot of followers. The best people to follow are rappers, makeup artists, fashion accounts, anything with a high follow number. If you are looking for certain people to follow you, I.E. you are a musician and want other musicians or music fans to follow you, go and follow people that are in the same genre or category as you are looking for. If you don't care who follows you, just start following anyone you can find that's verified.
-STEP 3: If you just started following people, you should start to see people slowly following you, if you don't, just give it time, it's not a very fast process and it may take a while for people to follow.
-STEP 4: If you already have a bunch of verified people you're following, this is where the rinse and repeat part comes in. What you want to do is go to your follow list, and unfollow and then quickly refollow everyone that is verified. If you just recently followed a bunch of people, don't do this step. Give it another 24 hours and see how many followers you can get. If you don't wait there's a possibility they'll either restrict your account or ban you.
The reason this works is because when people are looking to gain followers, they will go to a celebrities page and follow every recent person on their followers list. They do this because when you follow someone, your name goes towards the top of the list. The reason you want to unfollow and refollow these celebs every 24 hours is to put your name back on top of the list and a new batch of people will follow you. Pretty much you're just doing the opposite of what other people do, and using them to your advantage.
And there you have it, this method is really good if you have time and patience to do it, but you have to be wary about how many times in a day you follow and unfollow people.
