During the California Goldrush during 1848-1855 many moved westwards in an attempt to fulfill a hope of making it big when in reality they never got farther or in most cases ended up worse than they were before, however those were the miners on the other side there were the merchants who held monopolies on basic goods such as food, tools, etc. who in some cases made millions compared to the miners. Although many think an event like this will never happen again one is happening right in front of us with cryptocurrencies and as of right now it is playing out the exact same way.
