This is something I have suffered with all my life; constantly biting my nails and the skin around it when I'm stressed, bored or focusing on something mundane. It's bothered me for so long, and I've tried a bunch of different things to try and fix it, but nothing ever worked... until a few months ago!
I started keeping a toothpick or matchstick behind my ear, and whenever I got the urge to bite and was consciously aware of it, I'd put it in my mouth and chew on the end of it or just move it around my mouth. It became the more 'normal' thing for me to do, and I'd end up doing it for minutes at a time, if not longer, and it stopped me from putting my fingers in my mouth like the child I've stayed being for so long.
After a couple of weeks, my hands looked brilliant and I had no cuts, no rough edges or sharp nail parts that would catch on things, and I felt a little healthier as I realised I was no longer putting common germs from my hands into my system. It may not seem like much, but it feels like it's given me more control over parts of my body I felt a bit of a slave to, and it's a very freeing feeling.
If you're struggling with the same issue, try it out like I did, and I'm sure you'll notice a difference!
