How can I bypass an online game Ban?

Hi, I got muted purposely on an online game (Pokémon Online) because I wanted to try to bypass it. And I did by using a VPN. Then a mod said "Oh I see" then he banned me. Now I am still banned when using VPN. Isn't VPN supposed to change my IP. So how did he Ban me? And is there anyway of bypassing it? Thank you.
