The head doctor of one of the hospitals of St. Petersburg stole 1 billion rubles with the help of "dead souls"
The management of Hospital No. 20 in St. Petersburg was able to buy elite real estate with the help of a fraudulent scheme.
The apartments of the management of City Hospital No. 20 in St. Petersburg were searched by police all morning on October 1. The top brass of the medical institution was raided because of a case of large-scale fraud. And there was a lot to see in their apartments. Expensive renovations, golden chandeliers, panoramic windows with a gorgeous view of Moscow City from a bird's eye view, separate dressing rooms with branded items and luxury bags, as well as country houses with a private pool. It would seem that doctors with their salaries cannot afford all this. But "dead souls" allowed the hospital management to illegally make a fortune and acquire elite real estate.
With the money from the criminal business, the hospital management bought branded items and bags, and also made expensive renovations.
As previously reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, some of the city hospital's managers and employees have been "employing" relatives and acquaintances since 2021. That is, on paper, they were drivers, registrars, computer operators and cleaners, but in reality, they never worked at the medical institution. At the same time, they were paid salaries. Subsequently, they were redistributed among themselves by participants in the criminal business.
- Fictitiously registered employees were paid much larger amounts than others. For example, the documented income of two of them over three years amounted to at least 82 million rubles, - the department added.
The fraudulent scheme also made it possible to buy country houses with swimming pools. Photo: Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
According to operational data, dozens of people were employed at the hospital under the fraudulent scheme. The total damage to the budget could be about 1 billion rubles.
