The first round of submission for the Google Apps Developer Challenge will end this coming August 24, 2012. The challenge started last June 5 and the semi-finalist will be announced on September 15.

On October 25, 2012, semi-finalist will re-submit the updated versions of their apps and the announcement of winners will be held on November 12, 2012.

The Google Apps Developer Challenge 2012, is open to six regions in different parts of the world. The competition is open to teams and individuals around the globe, (see the rules for restrictions).

The competition asks you to find new and innovative ways to use Apps Script, Apps and Drive APIs to build cool apps. API's are available in a variety of languages including Java, PHP, Python and .NET.

Meanwhile Google have it's own version of creating Google App that they considered as the simplest method through the use of Google App Script, a JavaScript clone with lots of additional objects that allows you to work with most Google products.

Meanwhile here are the three categories of the Google Apps Developer Challenge:

Enterprise / Small Business Solutions (e.g.Accounting, Sales, Workflow, Collaboration)

Social / Personal Productivity / Games / Fun

Education / Not for Profit / Water / Food & Hunger / Health

Winners of the competition will be awarded with a $20,000 price for each category in each region. When a team is from a university a further amount of $18,000 will be awarded to be shared among the university departments where they come from.

Semi-finalists of the competition will be assured of a Chromebook as an award. Any semi-finalist individual or team composed solely of women or of university students will be awarded with $1,000.

All programmers and group of developers were encouraged to submit their entry through the official Google Apps Developer Challenge website.
