Finnish Customs, in cooperation with the Swedish police, shut down the website and confiscated the servers of the Sipulitie marketplace. Sipulitie, a darknet marketplace running on the Tor network, was launched in February 2023. The site, available in Finnish and English, served as a platform for the illegal drug trade. According to open sources, the platform's revenue was around 1.3 million euros.
The investigation identified those involved in criminal activity on Sipulitie. It also turned out that the platform was a continuation of Sipulimarket, a site closed by customs in 2020. Sipulimarket was launched in 2019 and specialized in drug and doping trade. The turnover was estimated at more than 2 million euros. After the site was closed, the former administrator created Sipulitie, as well as another trading platform called Tsätti, which was also closed as part of this investigation.
As a result, Finnish Customs, together with the police, identified the administrators, moderators, and people supporting the sites, as well as buyers and sellers. The investigation is ongoing, with the participation of the Finnish police, the Swedish police, Europol, the Polish secret service, and the information security company Bitdefender.
