A former Disney employee, unhappy with his termination, allegedly repeatedly hacked into the menu-creation software used by Walt Disney World restaurants and changed allergy information to indicate that peanut-containing items were safe for people with allergies. He also added profanity to menus and changed fonts to Wingdings , a font made up of symbols, according to a federal complaint.
The suspect, Michael Scheuer, allegedly hacked into a Disney-exclusive menu-creation and management system developed by a third-party company (referred to in the complaint as “Company B” ). In that system, he allegedly used passwords he had access to from his time at Disney to make changes that made the menus inaccessible for weeks.

Disney noticed the changes at the printing stage and prevented them from being distributed to restaurants.
Scheuer, according to the complaint, also attempted to hack into employee accounts, locking them out and using a script to automatically log in. He also collected personal information on four employees, including their home addresses, phone numbers, and family members, and even visited the home of one of them.
These actions became apparent to employees after the fonts were changed to Wingdings, rendering the menus inaccessible and paralyzing the menu creation system for several weeks. Disney was forced to use backups to restore the system and implement manual processes to temporarily resolve the issue.
Scheuer also allegedly hacked Company B’s FTP servers and uploaded files with slightly modified menus containing erroneous pricing and allergen information that could have been life-threatening. Later, he changed the QR codes on large street menus to direct users to boycott-israel.org.
Disney is also involved in a separate lawsuit over the death of a customer due to an allergic reaction, but the two cases are unrelated.
