Hello folks!
I'm a big fan of italian cuisine and I'd like to share with you the lasagna recipe I've been using for years (tested and likely approved by most of my family and friends, we hardly have leftovers!)
Ingredients
For the Bolognese Sauce:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the Lasagna:
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Bolognese Sauce:
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Remove excess fat if needed.
  • Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables soften.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef or vegetable broth, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
Lasagna Assembly:
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of the Bolognese sauce on the bottom.
  • Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  • Spread a layer of ricotta cheese over the noodles, followed by a layer of Bolognese sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Repeat the layers: noodles, ricotta, Bolognese, and cheeses until you’ve used all the ingredients, ensuring the top layer is Bolognese sauce topped with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and lightly golden.
  • Let the lasagna rest for about 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Enjoy your delicious beef lasagna Bolognese!
