Any easy ways to get money of advertising on own website?

So I've seen a lot of really shitty websites that can be making thousands a month just by sending fake traffic and bots to their website. Is this still possible, if so what is a way to begin doing this? If money was also invested, I'm guessing this will of course boost the total amount made how much is ideally needed to be making a decent amount?
