Alt Coin Investing

I was wondering what people thought of running a day trading operation on alt coins. Just having an algorithm connected to the APIs of a bunch of alt coins and constantly shuffling the portfolio, making trades at really slight changes, and using some stochastic modeling as a basis/framework and then some machine learning to automate more decisions. Has anyone thought of doing this or has done it?
Also, side question, has anyone run a pump and dump operation on an alt coin?
