Google announced the opening of Google Code Jam 2013, the challenged which involves professionals and student programmers around the world to solve tough algorithmic puzzles using the programming language and development environment of their choice.

Google however, asked participants that the compiler or interpreter is freely available. You can't used paid-for tools. The contest will be celebrating its 10th year anniversary since its inception way back the year 2003.

During the 2012 edition of Google Code Jam, there are 20,613 programmers participated and solved at least one problem. The winner was one of the world's most elite programmers, identified as Jakub Pachocki, a computer science student at the University of Warsaw, he was also declared as the second place winner of the Facebook Hacker Cup 2013.

The registration for the Google Code Jam 2013 or the Google's 10th Code Jam is open to anyone over the age of 13 years old with few territorial exclusions, Cuba, Quebec, Saudi Arabia and Syria, they are not allowed to participate.

The qualification round will start in April 12, 2013. The online rounds will feature contestants facing a mix of algorithmic problems to solve, but it will extends over 25 hours, so that all contestant can choose a convenient time.

This year's First Round will be held on April 27, May 4, and May 12 with starting points at different times of day and each lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes.

The Top 3000 qualifiers will moved on to Round 2 to be held online on June 1 at 14:00 UTC. The Top 1000 contestant will win t-shirts and the top 500 advance to Round 3, to be held in June 15 at 14:00 UTC.

The Top 25 contestants from the Round 3 Online round will moved on to compete in the Google Code Jam Finals to be held on Friday August 16 and Google will pay their travel costs and expenses.

The winners of the Google's 10th Code Jam Challenge will bring home the title and the $15,000 prize. The second prize will be awarded with $2,000; third prize of $1,000 and the remainder of the finalist will receive $100.00.

Before entering the competition, programmers are advised to read the Quick Starter Guide to help you get used to the types of problem you will encounter and how the scoring works.
