This article will explain about the two well-known languages that exist today – C# and VB.NET.

Though I am a Visual Basic fanatic, I don’t want to recommend that VB is better than C#. Some of the C/C++ programmer would argue that C# is the best language compare to VB.NET. Well, if we go back 10 years ago, this notion is sometimes correct. But of course it would defend on the application that you are going to create.

C# is based on C++ or Java, while VB.NET is based on BASIC. Both languages is said to use the same framework, the .NET framework. On the other hand, whether you use C# or VB, the functionality is the same. In other words, what you can do in C# can also be done in VB.NET.

This idea is being backed up by Justin James on his article “Why do C# developers look down on VB.NET?”. Another good article about this can be found in Stackoverflow.com.

For me, whether you use C# or VB.NET, there is really no difference except on the syntax. If you choose between the two, choose the language that you are familiar with. If you know BASIC then go for VB.NET. If you are familiar with C/C++ then go for C#.

You choices always defend on us and not on what other people are saying. The important is you must be production on the language that you choose.
