AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) has released the latest version of its x86 Open64 Compiler Suite, which extends support to Piledriver and includes a 64-bit build.
The compiler is not just AMD specific, the x86 Open 64 Compiler is a collaboration works by some commercial companies, universities and research institutes. The compiler technology supports both the current and future x86 platforms and can be run on any x86 based system.
AMD, one of Intel's most popular rival in the semi-conductor business industry have designed the x86 Open64 Compiler Suite through it's own code generation tool that has been designed with AMD Opteron processor in mind.
According to AMD the suite can be used with C, C++, or Fortran for either 32-bit or 64-bit Linux.
Multi-threading is also supported, the suite will support global optimizations and loop transformations to get the best performance from each x86 processor core. The compiler have further improvements to optimizer and code generation.
The x86 Open 64 Compiler Version 4.5.2 start with support for the AMD Opteron Family 15 Processor. It includes 64-bit build for the Open64 Compiler. Improvements were also made on the advanced vectorization capability, and improved performance and functionality of LNO optimization.
The latest version of x86 Open64 Compiler Suite support form common AVX, XOP, FMA3, FMA4, BMI, TBM, F16C intrinsic. One of it's update also is the extended platform support, including SLES 11, sp2, and RHEL 6.3.
