Letting him choose where to come out of his Q may add skill expression but it also removes his core counterplay. Stat check type champs like Yi need to have clear weaknesses or they just run over games, in very, very unfun ways.
I'd prefer just leaving him as is, I can't think high elo players are wishing Master Yi was viable in their games. Anytime Yi is viable in high elo it leads to a toxic play style called funneling. Reading all the changes to Yi makes me think the balance team have no idea what they're doing.
