So after two days of frustration and experimentation, I have finally figured out how to get League working inside of virtual machines.
This post will give you an extremely brief overview of how to go about setting this up, but please note that I will not be providing you with any of the software that is required for this because frankly, they exist in a gray area of legality. But if your google-fu is really not up to par with the average person, you really shouldn’t be using VMs anyways (jk, I’ll help you best I can, time allowing).
What you will need:
· A setup good enough to emulate entire OS on a host OS, i.e. a PC with over 8 gigs of ram, at least a 2nd gen i5, a good enough video card(doesn’t need to be fancy), over 500gb hard drive space, and stable internet
· VMware Workstation 10
· Tiny7. iso (you could use other OS, but I find that Tiny7 is best for league and performance)
· Decent knowledge of how to use Microsoft Windows (if you don’t have a good affinity with computers, you probably shouldn’t be dabbling in Virtual Machines)
· A brain
· Some patience
· Maybe some music to while away the wait times
Instructions
1. Install VMware Workstation 10 onto your host pc (PC you will be using for emulation). This is fairly straightforward, as the installation for VMware is hitting next, hardest part being inputting a cd-key.
2. Open VMware. Run through any arbitrary 1st time setups. You should get something like this: .
3. Create a new workstation with custom settings. See imgur album for step by step: 4. Now power on the machine using 5. Run through the windows setup dialogue, put on some music (I always appreciate a little Portishead during these times).
6. Now during 1st time setup, tiny7 will run some scripts to finish setting up and activating windows. LET THEM RUN AND DON'T DO ANYTHING. (make sure you are connected to the internet)
7. Open up internet explorer, navigate Tools>internet options>advanced tab and configure your internet settings to the following: 8. To make things easier, download and install firefox browser.
9. Ok, before we progress further, we need to install a crucial component of emulation for VMware: VMware Tools. This will allow you to use your host’s hardware more natively on the VM. To do that: 10.This will insert an iso file of VMware tools into the disc drive in the VM. Run it from My Computer and install the tools.
11.Now install Microsoft .NET framework 4.5.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40773) on the VM.
12. Also install DirectX EndUser Runtime (June 2010) on the VM. You have to unzip this to a folder and install from DXSETUP.EXE inside of the folder (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109)
13.Install League of Legends and let it update.
14.You should be good to go.
As you guys can see, this is very short and assumes that you have a baseline knowledge of computers and how to work them. If you don't get anything, please ask below and i'll try to answer it to the best of my ability.
