1# CHANGE YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE LADDER
Novacaine has explained that in his guide, I will sum it up here.
You climb the ladder faster, just by playing more, without improving.
I’ll begin with some things you need to know about the Ladder as a whole.
The ladder works more or less this way: No matter how good or bad the people on the ladder are, there will always be approximately a third bronzes, 40% silvers, 15% golds, ~10% platiniums, ~5% diamonds, and <1% Master/Challenger.
What does that mean for you?
It means that your SoloQ rank depends on your level RELATIVELY to the playerbase’s.
And that, as long as new players level up to 30 at play their placement matches, and that older players leave the game, you WILL climb if you play regularly, even if you don’t actually improve.
2# CHANGE YOUR MINDSET
Flame? Toxicity? Unskilled mates? Afk? Forget all these things.
There are three things only that should matter to you when playing SoloQ:
1) There are two outcomes of a game: Victory and Defeat.
2) Victory raises my MMR, Defeat lowers it.
3) MMR is hidden and defines my LP gains/losses. Therefore, it is pointless for me to worry about my LPs.
That’s it. One of the keys to improve yourself is to IGNORE your LPs. And your promotion matches. And an eventual demotion if you lose the game. Do not play for LPs. Do not play for promotion matches. The only thing you should be looking for is to GAIN MMR. Because in the end, MMR is the only thing that matters in your climb.
What about your mates ?
· Your teammates are not your friends.
· But they are not your enemies.
· They are strangers that you share a game with.
· Their opinion of you doesn’t matter.
· But your opinion of them doesn’t matter either.
· You, as a single player, are playing to climb.
· You are not playing to make your team climb.
If everything written above is now clear in your mind, you have already earn .win rate %.
3# CHANGE THE WAY YOU BUILD YOUR CHAMPION POOL. Little secret ahead.
We are here to talk about climbing faster. It’s not a gentle world. I won’t say “play the champs that you have fun withâ€. Anyway, you can have fun with any champion if you win a lot. The two best ways to climb faster:
- OTP: Play only one champion. A lot. By mastering it, you will be able to focus more on the macrogame. That represents 80% of the final outcome of your games. Choose a champion that have a high skill-floor and a high skill-cap. A little secret: go on http://champion.gg/ -> click on a champ -> look for ‘Win Rate % by Games Played’. Choose a champ that have a very high positive correlation between the number of game played and the win rate.
- MetaSlave: Each patch, some champions are better than the average. On each lane. Choose you lane, then go on op.gg -> rank the champions by winrate, and choose your champs among the 2 or 3 bests champs on your lane. Buy it inLoL. Look one “guide†on youtube or whatever, to have the basics. Play 10 normal games with it. Work the mechanics, force fights, challenge every matchup you encounter. Don’t care about the win. You are not here for that. Then when you feel you have masters the different combos, go in ranked, and spam the champs until its win rate goes down.
There are 2 advantages by becoming an MT: your gaming experience is far more diversified than an OTP AND your champion pool is growing every time you try a new “high-win-rate champâ€. So you can use this huge champion pool to hard counter your enemy in some special occasions.
If you master these different points, you should be able to climb the ladder quickly. Once you are stuck again, it will be time to talk about macrogame, but I won’t say much more in this post. My answer is already quite long.
